Patient 86 - 2022 - found objects sources from hospital - 15" x 24" x 4"
This piece exploring the theme of the narrative is a three-dimensional work made of collected hospital bracelets and a pillow. I juxtapose comfortability and uncomfortability by contrasting the softness of the pillow with the both physical and contextual roughness of the bracelets. The woven nature of it is symbolic of the way all the different individual events represented by the bracelets connect to create a larger story.
Bones - 2022 - fabric, thread, newspaper, sticks - 34" x 4" x 4"
This three-dimensional hanging piece is a scale model of bones in my leg that I covered in actual X-rays and MRIs of mine. I provide the ambiguous bones a history and personhood by directly connecting myself to them through imagery, further exploring the narrative of the body as a vessel for oneself and the often unseen context that influences how we move throughout the world. The softness is reflective of the instability of my own bones, something one would not be able to tell from the outside.
Take A Seat - 2022 - wood, mixed media - 51" x 24" x 30"
This self-portrait is a wooden chair I built in the simplified shape of myself. It is covered in personal documents taken from my diagnosis and treatment for Leukemia starting when I was in eighth grade. It also has X-Rays of various limbs of mine overlayed onto the correct spots. were I to be sitting in the chair. As an extension of the experience, I invite viewers to sit in it, which is intentionally uncomfortable as a representation of my lived experiences.
